529 incoming rollover FAQ

CollegeAmerica and ABLEAmerica are nationwide plans sponsored by Virginia 529

Complete the CollegeAmerica Rollover/Transfer Request (PDF). If the rollover will be invested into a new account that has not been established, include the CollegeAmerica Account Application (PDF) with the request.

Note: Before you submit a rollover request, contact the institution currently holding the account since there may be specific requirements to release the funds.

The process can vary depending on where the account currently resides. Contact the current institution holding the account for instructions.

The process to move money from these account types into a CollegeAmerica 529 can vary based on the specific account type and who is currently the owner/beneficiary. Contact us or the institution holding the current account to discuss the requirements for moving the funds.

A signature guarantee is a stamp that certifies:

  • The signature was genuine
  • The appropriate person was signing
  • The signer had the legal capacity to sign

Capital Group does not require a signature guarantee on the form to accept a rollover into a CollegeAmerica 529 account; however, we recommend contacting the company holding the current account because the company may have a signature guarantee or other certification requirement to release the funds.
