Fraud protection and awareness

The proliferation of eCrime (often referred to as “online fraud or scams”) is a global phenomenon. The sophistication of online scams offering fake investment opportunities and job opportunities is rising, and it’s important to be aware of how these scams work so you can identify them.

Capital Group is currently aware of the following scams:

  • An investment fraud  by a non-Capital Group entity purporting to be ‘CapitalGroup-Fund(s),’ ‘Cap Group Finance,’ and ‘Capital Group Limited’ are fraudulently using Capital Group UK Management Company Limited’s business registration information, Capital Group Fund’s business registration information, and Capital Group Private Markets’ business registration information from FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). Please refer to the following notice from the Financial Conduct Authority warning firms and investors about this fraud.
  • A high-return bond investment fraud using the Capital Group’s brand (copycat/look-alike websites and email addresses), offered by those who impersonate Capital Group employees (Colin, Scott, Edward, etc.).
  • An investment trading scam operating via WhatsApp, Telegram, and LINE, impersonating Capital Group and its employees
  • Mortgage loan scam and small business loan scam using the Capital Group brand
  • Employment fraud offering a print-at-home payroll processing job

The enforcement action undertaken by the Isle of Man Financial Services Authority (“IOM FSA”), announced by the IOM FSA on the 12th September 2024, in relation to Capital International Limited, an investment firm registered in the Isle of Man (Co# 079857C) and licensed by the IOM FSA, is not in any way linked or associated with Capital Group or any of its group companies including Capital International Limited, registered with UK Companies House (Co# 01613098).

Capital Group does not:

  • Cold call or send unsolicited emails, offering investment products
  • Accept or request payments in bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies
  • Endorse any digital currencies
  • Offer free Bitcoin/cryptocurrency
  • Offer business loans or initial public offerings (IPOs)
  • Offer venture capital
  • Trade via platforms like Webtrader or Metatrader
  • Offer VIP memberships
  • Invite you to represent our company
  • Conduct an interview process solely over text or email
  • Require or make payments during our job interview or onboarding processes
  • Contact job applicants using webmail email addresses (e.g., Gmail, Hotmail, etc.)
  • Contact job applicants using messaging apps (e.g., WhatsApp, WeChat, Telegram, etc.)
