It only takes three quick steps to activate 24/7 online access to your American Funds account. Before you get started, there are two things you're going to need, your account number and the last four digits of the primary account holder's social security number. The account number can be found on any statement that you've received. If you don't have a statement handy, this might be a good place to pause the video so you can grab one.

All right, got your account number and the last four digits of your social? Let's get started. To start, go to the log-in page, select the new user link and enter your account number. Then, click Next. This screen is when you'll enter information about the primary account holder, the main account holder on the account, if multiple people are listed on your account, you can click here to identify the primary account holder, as well as their date of birth. Easy.

After you accept the terms and conditions, you'll create a username and password that you'll use every time you log in into your account. Requirements are outlined here. Once you enter and confirm your email address, click Next. While activating your online account, you can also sign up for paperless delivery of your American Funds communications. This preference can be changed at any time.

Finally, you'll verify your identity, which is very important for keeping your account secure. To do so, you will need to receive a one-time passcode. This can be sent to your mobile device via text message, or to your email address. It should be arriving shortly. There it is. Enter the code and click Submit.

Your entries are summarized here. Once you review your information, click on Go To Portfolio. That's it, you now have 24/7 access to your account, where you can check your balance, complete account transactions, view statements and tax forms, plus so much more.
