Getting started

Once your account is set up, you can access it online by clicking the Log in button on the top right-hand corner of the page.

If you’re accessing your account online for the first time, log in by clicking the Get started here link on the first login screen.

If you’ve set up an email address or text-enabled phone number for security purposes, you can reset your password by clicking “Reset Password” from the login page by entering your user ID and choosing how you’d like to receive your one-time passcode.

If you haven’t set up your security information or you don’t know your user ID, you’ll need to contact us for assistance. Be sure to find your plan ID in the top-right portion of your account statement so we can better assist you.

Click Forgot User ID from the login page. You’ll be prompted to enter your Social Security number, date of birth and password.

If you don’t know your password, find your plan ID in the top-right portion of your account statement and contact us.

In addition to greater account security, one-time passcodes make it easier to reset your password or verify your identity when we don’t recognize the device you’re using to access your account.

Your employer selects the funds in your company retirement plan. However, you can invest in any American Funds outside of your plan by opening an IRA or a regular mutual fund account.

For the best experience you will need these products, but they aren’t required for viewing the site. Links for RealPlayer and Adobe Reader appear when needed, and the site can detect when you need Flash to see something. If you don’t have Flash, you’re given the option and the link to download it — but only the first time the site detects a problem. If you’re accessing the site from your workplace, you may have to contact your network administrator in order to download the software.

Yes. You will be asked to customize your user ID the first time you log in.

If you’ve already customized your user ID and want to change your user ID again, log in to your account and click the Profile tab in the menu at the top of your screen. Select Login Security, then click Change User ID.
