Due to system constraints, returns for accounts started before 2003 are calculated with an initial investment date of January 1, 2003, and the investment value as of that date.
The information provided in the “Fund results from a long-term perspective” section of the quarterly statement represents standard, fund-level returns. These returns are calculated using specific variables and formulas regulated by the SEC that allow investors to compare returns from one investment vehicle to another. The returns do not account for the specific activity that occurred in the accounts shown on the statement.
In addition to being used for fund comparison, it also provides newer investors with information about the long-term performance history of the funds within their portfolio.
