Inside Claire O’Keefe’s journey from an Irish classroom to a $100bn RIA

Cerity Partners’ head of partner development came to the world of finance after holding previous jobs as a waitress, bartender and elementary school teacher in Ireland.
Cerity Partners head of partner development Claire O’Keefe was born and raised in southwestern Ireland, where her grandparents owned a bed and breakfast. Entranced as a child by the cyclists and wayfarers that wandered through, she quickly caught the travel bug.
In high school, she decided — as one of the oldest grandchildren in her large family with a passion for people — to train to become a teacher. She studied at a college in Wales before starting her professional career as an elementary school teacher in inner city Dublin.
During her summers off, O’Keefe traveled, picking up odd bartending and waitressing jobs where she could. One year, while she was abroad in Newport, R.I., she met the man who would become her husband; they married and moved to New York City. Before she could transfer her teaching credentials to the US,  a friend introduced her to Heritage Strategies, LLC, a boutique wealth management firm on Long Island, where she took on an administrative role.
