Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to some top questions on our ETFs

For advisor use only. Not for use with investors.

Our mission is simple: to improve people’s lives through successful investing. We want to make our investment services available to more investors, in the investment vehicle they prefer — whether it’s separately managed accounts (SMAs), mutual funds or ETFs.

We saw an opportunity to bring our 90-plus year history of pursuing consistent, long-term outcomes via active management to ETFs. We believe investors deserve more from the core of their portfolios and want to provide them with more choice.

Our mutual funds and ETFs draw on the same underlying investment strategies, capabilities and investment management teams. Portfolios are managed for the specific needs of the vehicle.

Some differences from the mutual funds include:

  • Returns will not be identical
  • Equity ETFs generally will have fewer holdings, and holdings in common may be held in different weightings
  • Fixed income ETFs will likely have different holdings due to the nature of the bond market

There are several considerations to keep in mind when trading ETFs, such as:

  • Use limit orders (which specify the price at which an investor is willing to buy or sell) instead of market orders (which are executed quickly, at the current price)
  • If possible, trade ETFs with international exposure when underlying markets are open
  • Avoid trading the first and last 15 minutes of the trading day
  • Be mindful of the bid-ask spread, particularly during market volatility
  • Be mindful of market news and economic indicator reporting
  • For large orders, contact your firm’s internal block trading desk
  • For more information on block trades, or if you need Capital Markets assistance with your own ETF block trade, contact your Capital Group sales representative.

Commissions, trailing commissions, management fees and expenses all may be associated with investments in investment funds. Please read the prospectus before investing. Investment funds are not guaranteed or covered by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation or by any other government deposit insurer. For investment funds other than money market funds, their values change frequently. For money market funds, there can be no assurances that the fund will be able to maintain its net asset value per security at a constant amount or that the full amount of your investment in the fund will be returned to you. Past performance may not be repeated.

Capital Group exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are actively managed and do not seek to replicate a specific index. ETF units are bought and sold through an exchange at the then current market price, not net asset value (NAV), and are not individually redeemed from the fund. Units may trade at a premium or discount to their NAV when traded on an exchange. Brokerage commissions will reduce returns. There can be no guarantee that an active market for ETFs will develop or be maintained, or that the ETF's listing will continue or remain unchanged.

The ETFs are prospectus qualified in Canada and are not registered with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission and are not intended for distribution in the United States.
