Abril was the largest magazine publisher in Latin America with interests in cable television distribution and production. Abril’s primary activity was consumer magazine publishing, where it captured 70% of Brazilian subscription and advertising revenues. Abril was also the controlling shareholder in TVA, the country’s second largest cable television operator and Brazil’s largest schoolbook publishers Atica and Scipione. In addition, Abril produced and distributed the television music channel, MTV Brazil, in a joint venture with Viacom.
